The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions has begun a three-year project to build the capacity of NHRIs in all parts of the world.

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) has embarked on a three-year project to strengthen the capacity of NHRIs in all parts of the world to protect and promote human rights at the national level.

Coordinated by the Danish Institute of Human Rights (DIHR), the project will work in partnership with the four regional networks of NHRIs, including the APF, to deliver blended learning courses on:

  • Human Rights Education
  • Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
  • Monitoring and Reporting
  • Business and Human Rights.

The blended learning courses will be available free of charge in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

The project also includes 16 re-grants for follow-up interventions by those NHRIs who have participated in the blended learning program. The grants will be available from the end of 2017.

Christina Verdiani Pohani and Mads Gottlieb from the DIHR met with the APF in late August 2016 to discuss the project and the expected outcomes.

They were joined by Garett Brennan from Context Partners, who led discussions to identify the ways in which the APF can best support and harness the immense skills and expertise of APF members.

As part of the project, the APF will deliver blended learning courses on human rights education in September 2016 and on economic, social and cultural rights from November 2016.

The three-year project is supported by the European Union with funding of € 5 million.
