Representatives from the NHRIs of India and Bangladesh have shared their experiences working with vulnerable communities.

The National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh has hosted a one-day conference to share experiences and collaborate with colleagues from the National Human Rights Commission of India.

Learning good practices from other countries is an essential part of upholding human rights, Bangladesh's Law Minister Anisul Huq said at the opening of the seminar.

"Human rights go beyond national borders. Learning from good practices from regional and international experiences is an essential component of moving forward," he said.

Kazi Reazul Hoque, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh, and Justice HL Dattu, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of India, both addressed the workshop, along with Sudipto Mukerjee, Country Director of UNDP.

The seminar included plenary sessions on

  • Child protection and justice systems
  • Rights of migrant workers and repatriation of victims of trafficking.

A detailed description of the seminar – "Experience Sharing of National Human Rights Institutions: Challenges and Way Forward" – is available on the website of the National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh.
