The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Cambodian Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism (Cambodian Working Group)

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Cambodian Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism (Cambodian Working Group) co-organized and co- hosted a "Conference on the Establishment of a National Human Rights Institution in Cambodia" in Siem Reap, Kingdom of Cambodia on 25-27 September 2006.

The APF was represented at the conference by representatives of the national human rights commissions of Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as a staff member of the APF Secretariat.

During his keynote address to the conference, Cambodian Prime Minister declared "We want to establish a National Human Rights Institution based on the Paris Principles."

The conference acknowledged the need to establish a national human rights institution in Cambodia in full compliance the Paris Principles.

The conference also resolved that a Joint Working Group be constituted composed of representatives of government and civil society to draft the law creating the National Human Rights Institution of Cambodia.
