Functions and Operations of Chinese National Institutions on Human Rights Protection

The 3rd international conference on national human rights institutions held in the Peoples' Republic of China was hosted by the China University for Political Science and Law in cooperation with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Beijing, 4-6 October 2006.

Participants at the conference included representatives of the All China Women's Federation, the Supreme Peoples' Court, Supreme Peoples' Procturate, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives from regional government institutions and academic organisations.

The purpose of the conference was to report on academic research on the status and development of national mechanisms for the protection of human rights in China and to look forward to possible future developments.

The APF was represented at the conference by its Director, Mr Kieren Fitzpatrick.
