APF-HREA Foundation Course for NHRIs
This six-week online training course examines the elements that make an effective national human rights institution

This six-week online training course will examine the key elements that help make an effective national human rights institution (NHRI).
Nineteen staff members from the NHRIs of India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mongolia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Thailand will take part in the Foundation course, which will explore and discuss:
- the origin, history and context of NHRIs
- the nature and concept of NHRIs, including the Paris Principles
- the advisory mandate of NHRIs
- the human rights education and promotion mandate of NHRIs
- the quasi-judicial functions of NHRIs
- regional and international collaboration amongst NHRIs
The course, which is run in partnership with Human Rights Education Associates, will involve set readings, online group discussions and chat sessions, assignments and ‘Webinars’ with guest experts.
It will be facilitated by Professor Chris Sidoti, APF expert consultant, and Suraina Pasha, from the APF Secretariat.
