The upcoming International Conference on Human Rights and Multicultural Society is being organised by the NHRCK to commemorate the 60th anniversaries of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the founding of the Republic of Korea.
With a theme of ‘Protection of Human Rights in a Multicultural Society’, the conference will engage more than a 100 human rights experts – from UN human rights bodies, academics, practitioners and representatives of national human rights institutions – in a dialogue on global policy.
Delegates from government agencies, inter-governmental organisations, human rights NGOs and migrant communities will also be active participants in conference deliberations.
The conference will address emerging human rights challenges in the context of multicultural society in Korea, as well as Asia and other continents.
Discussion will focus on the rights to education, livelihood, and work and human rights violations pertaining to migrant workers, the internationally married, and their families.
Day 1 (10 November) will focus on the regional situations. The program is composed of four regional workshops covering Africa, Europe, North and Latin America.
Day 2 (11 November) will focus on Asia and the Pacific and thematic issues such as the rights to education, livelihood, and work and human rights violations in the immigration process.
Day 3 (12 November) will review and adopt the Seoul Guideline on Cooperation among NHRIs for the Protection of Migrants.
The ‘Seoul Guideline’ is expected to become a common tool for NHRIs working on issues related to the rights of migrants.
