New tool puts human rights on the map

An innovative web-based resource launched recently by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute offers users a simple, visual guide to the international human rights commitments of every country around the globe.

An innovative web-based resource launched recently by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute offers users a simple, visual guide to the international human rights commitments of every country around the globe.

An innovative web-based resource launched recently by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute offers users a simple, visual guide to the international human rights commitments of every country around the globe.

Ideal as a teaching tool or to source information quickly, the 'RWI Human Rights ThemeMaps' uses a world map and graphs to highlight the ratification status of the nine key international human rights conventions and their respective protocols.

The RWI Human Rights ThemeMaps also include information on:

  • regional human rights conventions
  • ILO conventions relating to collective bargaining, forced labour, child labour and discrimination
  • humanitarian and refugee law
  • membership of international organisations, and
  • thematic issues related to the work and operation of the UN Human Rights Council.

The accreditation and membership status of national human rights institutions of both the International Coordinating Committee and the Asia-Pacific Forum is featured in one of the site’s drop-down menu.

By left-clicking on a country with a NHRI, a visitor can link directly to the country page of the NHRI on the Asia Pacific Forum website or the National Human Rights Institution Forum website.

The site also includes a guide to assist first-time users find the information they need.
