NHRC leads Arab Network of NHRIs

The Commission assumed leadership of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions at the 13th meeting of the Network's General Assembly.

The Oman Human Rights Commission assumed leadership of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions at the 13th meeting of the Network's General Assembly, ONA reported.

The meeting was attended by a leading Arab, regional and international figures, as well as the chairpersons of human rights commissions and organisations.

Isa bin Said al- Kayoumi, Chairperson of the Oman Human Rights Commission, said in a statement that chairing the Network was a great responsibility.

We will seek to promote the performance of the network to activate its role in promoting the human rights culture and providing the conducive milieu for freedom of expression, without any exaggeration and without any involvement of issues related to racism, religion or creeds as this has negative effects on the Arab societies, the statement said.

The opening speech was delivered Dr. Mousa Burayzat, Commissioner General of the Jordan National Centre for Human Rights.

Algeria will host the next General Assembly meeting in 2017.

Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Palestine and Morocco were elected to the executive committee of the Network.
