NHRI Workshop on HIV/ AIDS and Human Rights
A three-day workshop will bring together NHRIs from the Asia Pacific region to discuss how they can integrate HIV-related human rights issues into their programme of work.
When: 10-12 March 2010
Where: Bangkok Thailand
The Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Uganda Human Rights Commission, in partnership with OHCHR, UNAIDS and UNDP, have organised a series of regional HIV workshops to inspire NHRIs around the world to integrate HIV-related human rights issues into their programme of work.
Three regional workshops have been held so far: in Eastern and Southern Africa (2008), West and Central Africa (October 2009) and in Latin America (December 2009).
With support from the APF, a three-day workshop will now bring together NHRIs from the Asia Pacific region:
- to give NHRIs the opportunity to share experiences and identify opportunities on how HIV can be integrated into their programme of work
- to review the human rights standards and principles that may guide the national HIV response
- to strengthen institutional collaboration between national human rights institutions and other stakeholders in the HIV response.
The issue of HIV/AIDs is on the agenda for the upcoming meeting of the International Coordinating Committee of NHRIs (ICC 23), which will take place in Geneva from 23-25 March.
The dates for the Asia-Pacific workshop have been chosen so that practical discussions can take place before the ICC meeting.
