Qatar: NHRC to host global forum on security and human rights

Qatar's National Human Rights Committee is set to host the first international conference on security and human rights in the Arab region.


Under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) will host the first international conference on security and human rights in the Arab region on 5-6 November 2014.

The conference's high preparatory committee yesterday met at the headquarters of Arab Interior Ministers Council General- Secretariat in Tunis under NHRC Chairman, Dr Ali bin Smeikh Al Marri.

Representatives of the General Secretariat, UN High Commission for Human Rights, Arab League and Arab Network of National Institutions for Human Rights attended as organising partners.

Arab interior ministries, national human rights institutions, human rights organisations and non-governmental human rights organisations will meet to discuss security and human rights and obstacles in the march of human rights.

They will also review Arab and international experiences in the field of security and human rights, important conventions and codes related to the work of security agencies and human rights organisations.

More than 300 representatives from Arab, regional and international human rights organisations, European, African and American courts of human rights, International Criminal Court, United Nations agencies, Interpol, Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Naif University for Security Sciences, the UN Office for Drugs and Crime and the UN Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute will take part in the conference.
