Commissioner High Level Dialogue, Philippines

A new APF program will provide members of the Philippines Commission on Human Rights with an opportunity to discuss and reflect on their roles roles as Commissioners within a national human rights institution.

A new APF program will provide members of the Philippines Commission on Human Rights with an opportunity to discuss and reflect on their roles roles as Commissioners within a national human rights institution.

A new APF program will provide recently-appointed members of the Philippines Commission on Human Rights (PCHR) with an opportunity to discuss and reflect on their roles as Commissioners within a national human rights institution.

The Commissioner High Level Dialogue will be held in Manila on 13 and 14 January 2009.

The two-day program includes a range of practical sessions that will address:

  • the role of national human rights institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights
  • the status, contents and implications of the Paris Principles
  • governance issues and managing a national institution
  • identifying and engaging with external stakeholders
  • engaging with and educating the community on human rights issues.

The program will be led by Mr Chris Sidoti, a former Australian Human Rights Commissioner (1995  -  2000) , and Ms Paulynn Sicam, a  former member of the PCHR in the 1990s.
