The APF works closely with national governments in the Asia Pacific region, providing advice on the establishment and strengthening of national human rights institutions.
The APF is often approached by governments during the pre-establishment phase of a national human rights institution. The APF provides a range of support services including legal and technical advice and where requested, the sending of an expert team to meet with political, government and civil society representatives.
Governments are invited to attend the APF’s annual meetings where they are provided the opportunity to report on human rights developments within their country.
Since its establishment in 1996 the APF has secured financial support for its operations from a number of Asia Pacific governments, including Australia, India, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea and Thailand.
