Association for the Prevention of Torture

The Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) is a key APF strategic and training partner.

The APT is an independent non-government organisation. Its primary objective is to prevent torture and other forms of ill-treatment through the promoting the transparency and accountability of institutions; the implementation of international, regional and national norms and standards; and changing practices and behaviour.

The APF has collaborated with the APT to assist national human rights institutions to prevent torture and other forms of ill-treatment. In November 2006, the APF and the APT, together with the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, conducted a Workshop on the Role of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea in the Prevention of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment.

At the 10th Annual Meeting in August 2005, representatives of the APT provided expert support to the Advisory Council of Jurists in its consideration of the Forum Council’s reference on torture.

The APT's website is available at http://www.apt.ch/
