The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) opened a field office for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) on 3 May 2012, the Philippine Star reported.
Acting ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman and CHR chairperson Loretta Anne Rosales opened the office, which was attended by representatives of various government and non-government organisations involved in activities to progress the Mindanao peace process.
“We are very grateful to the CHR for putting up a field office in the autonomous region,” Hataman said, pledging the support of the Office of the Regional Governor.
“There have been so many cases of human rights abuses in the autonomous region. Now our people can avail of the services of the CHR,” he said.
Peace activists also expressed their support for the establishment of the CHR field office.
The CHR’s field office will work in close coordination with the Office of the Regional Governor and the inter-agency regional peace and order council (RPOC).
Hataman said officials of the CHR-ARMM will automatically become members of the RPOC.
