The APF and the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission conducted an in-country human rights investigations training course for the Philippine Commission on Human Rights

The APF and the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission conducted an in-country human rights investigations training course for the Philippine Commission on Human Rights, 18-22 April 2005. The training program, which was developed in consultation the Philippines Commission, consolidated foundation knowledge and skills in relation to the investigation of alleged violations of human rights.

Training was provided for twenty-five participants, including investigators and lawyers from both the Commission’s central and fifteen regional offices. The course was well received and participants were enthusiastic and actively involved in the program. Participant feedback on achievement of learning objectives was positive with 91% of participants indicating that the course significantly assisted them or assisted them to a large extent in relation to the stated learning objectives.

Staff who attended the training course will have responsibility for utilising the training material to conduct in-house training for staff in their local office. The training program assisted the Philippines Commission to identify areas for further training for investigations staff and potential follow-up activities to reinforce learning from this program and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Commission’s investigations.
