Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is one of our key partners in advancing human rights in the region.

Since its establishment in 1996, the APF and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) have developed an important strategic partnership.

The OHCHR, a department of the United Nations secretariat, is mandated to promote and protect the human rights of all people set out in international human rights laws and treaties.

The APF works closely with the National Institutions and Regional Mecahnisms Unit, which is part of the OHCHR’s Capacity Building and Field Operations Branch.

We undertake strategic planning and work to ensure effective coordination of international and regional meetings, as well as training and capacity building initiatives in the Asia Pacific region.

The National Institution and Regional Mechanisms Unit facilitates the APF’s participation in United Nations human rights meetings and other international fora.

Senior OHCHR officers also participate in the regular APF Conference and other activities.

The website of OHCHR is: http://www.ohchr.org.
