International Human Rights Law

Since its establishment in 1996 the APF has contributed to the development and promotion of international human rights law.

The APF actively contributed to the development of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, through its participation at the meetings of the Ad Hoc Committee.

It is also working with NHRIs and governments in the Asia Pacific to promote understanding, ratification and implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and its Optional Protocol.

The APF’s Advisory Council of Jurists provides independent, authoritative advice on international human rights questions and has developed an important body of regional jurisprudence on the interpretation and application of international human rights standards.

Disability Convention

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities – the first human rights treaty of the 21st Century – aims to fight discrimination in relation to a wide range of rights.

Torture Convention

The APF is working works with partner organisations to build understanding of the Convention against Torture and its Optional Protocol.
