The APF is continuing its support for NHRI leaders during the COVID-19 pandemic by setting up a series of talks with leaders of member institutions to discuss their current work and priorities.

As part of the APF Leadership Solidarity Outreach program, established at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, the APF secretariat is available for a virtual meeting with an NHRI Chairperson – or another high-level representative – of any member institution that wishes to take part.

The agenda for each call can be specific or general, depending on the preference of the NHRI. It may involve discussing issues relating to the operation of NHRIs during the pandemic or requests for specific APF support or advice. The calls are usually no longer than 30-60 minutes.

"These virtual discussions are a practical way that we can support our members as they continue to navigate the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic," said Pip Dargan, APF Principal Adviser, Capacity Assessments and International Engagement.

"These discussions are an important way to maintain institutional and personal relationships and to understand the needs of our members, especially in such unprecedented times," she said.

A number of APF member institutions have accepted this invitation to date, and they have proven to be very effective.

The Leadership Solidarity Outreach program will continue while COVID-19 travel restrictions remain in place.
