Commission listens to experiences of herder women

Chief Commissioner Byambadorj Jamsran, along with the Commission's working group, has travelled to the eastern provinces of Mongolia to listen to the experiences of herder women.

The Commission's field study is looking at the sexual and reproductive health and rights of this group of women, including their right to be free from violence.

The working group met with herder women, invited them to complete a survey and conducted individual and focus group interviews.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Mongolia is supporting the field study, which visited three soums of Sukhbaatar Province and four soums of Dornod province from 9-15 May 2019.

The working group also met with Governors of each province and soums to collect information and cases relating to the human rights issues facing local communities, including their right to health care, the right to education and labour rights.

The working group, headed by the Chief Commissioner, will travel to the western provinces of Mongolia, namely Zavkhan and Khuvsgul provinces, to collect more information as part of the field study on sexual and reproductive health and rights of herder women.

Drawing on the information provided, the Commission will include a chapter on the rights of herder women in its next annual report.
