The IHCHR’s Board of Commissioners also unanimously decided to put the mourning mark on the logo of the Commission.

In recognition of the many lives lost during demonstrations across the country over the past two months, the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR) has suspended all celebrations marking International Human Rights Day, 10 December.

The IHCHR's Board of Commissioners also unanimously decided to put the mourning mark on the logo of the Commission.

In a statement, the IHCHR said the decision recognised "the continuation of peaceful and popular demonstrations taking place in the capital Baghdad and in a number of governorates, the unfortunate developments and events that caused the death and injury of a number of demonstrators and security forces, as well as the subsequent massive violations of constitutional rights and freedoms".

The Commission wished "mercy and eternity for the martyrs of the demonstrations and a speedy recovery for the injured".
