The Commission has raised concern about gender-based violence and the suspicious circumstances of the death of Isra’ Nasser Yousef Ghrayyeb.

The Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) has called for an investigation into the circumstances of the death of Isra' Nasser Yousef Ghrayyeb, a 21-year-old woman from Beit Sahur,

The ICHR said in a statement that Isra' arrived dead at the Beit Jala governmental hospital on 22 August 2019 and that the Public Prosecution transported her body to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.

It was also reported to the ICHR that Isra' had been admitted to the hospital on 10 August 2019 due to injuries of an unknown source.

"Out of its concern for gender-based violence, and in light of the available information on the suspicious circumstances of her death, the ICHR calls on the Public Prosecution to open a thorough investigation into the assault on, and subsequent death of, Isra," the statement said.

"The Public Prosecution should not exclude any suspicions of a criminal offence and should bring any suspects to justice."
