IHCHR Meets Special Rapporteur on Displacement

IHCHR Board Member Assistant Professor Dr. Anas Muhammad has met with Ms. Cecilia Jimenez-Damary, UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, at the Commission's head office in Baghdad.

Dr. Anas described the Commission's work to monitor and follow up on steps taken by government and international agencies to guarantee the rights of displaced persons, including economic, educational, health and humanitarian rights, since the displacement crisis in 2014 and onwards.

He also discussed the IHCHR's role to coordinate and cooperate with all government agencies and institutions to address the humanitarian issues facing people living in displacement camps and surrounding areas in the liberated provinces.

Ms Gimenez commended IHCHR's efforts in following up, monitoring and providing the technical and field advice to government institutions concerned with the reality of displacement.

She said she will include IHCHR's indictors on the situation of displaced people in Iraq in her next report.
