Investigators have been visiting the training venues of school athletic teams, sports clubs and workplace sports teams.

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea has been conducting an on-the-ground investigation into the human rights situation in sports since July 2020.

The investigation is examining human rights awareness among athletes and coaches, the current training environment and human rights violations that may have occurred.

To conduct a first-hand investigation, NHRCK investigators have been visiting the training venues of school athletic teams, sports clubs and workplace sports teams.

They have also been conducting one-on-one interviews with athletes and coaches to better understand the types of violations committed in the sports community and different patterns of violations in each sport.

The interviews will include athletes and coaches from different sports, including gymnastics, track and field and water sports, among others.

Former athletes and parents of athletes will also be interviewed.

Based on the findings of the investigation by the special task force on human rights in sports, the NHRCK will issue recommendations to relevant agencies on corrective measures and provide a forum for discussion to initiate changes that will protect and promote human rights in the field of sports.
