APF hosts online meeting with Ombudsman of Turkmenistan

The APF met with the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan to discuss the next steps in an upcoming Capacity Assessment to be held with the institution.

The APF has met with the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, Yazdursun Kurbannazarova, to discuss the next steps in an upcoming APF Capacity Assessment to be held with her Office.

The virtual meeting, held on 22 April, was facilitated by Pip Dargan, APF Principal Adviser on Capacity Assessments and International Engagement. 

Rosslyn Noonan, APF NHRI Expert Consultant, delivered an introductory briefing on the Capacity Assessment process, which is designed to enable NHRIs to develop and implement capacity development strategies to strengthen their ability to promote and protect human rights.

The meeting also included remarks by APF partner representatives Narine Sahakyan, Resident Representative at UNDP Turkmenistan; Ainura Bekkoenova, Policy Specialist, Rule of Law, Security and Human Rights at the Regional Office of UNDP in Istanbul, Turkey; Ryszard Komenda, Regional Representative, OHCHR for Central Asia; and Nara Ganbat, Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia. 

Lachin Artykova, Project Manager at UNDP Turkmenistan also delivered a presentation on the budgetary aspects of the Capacity Assessment. 

The APF will continue to work in close cooperation with our partners on the planning and implementation of the Capacity Assessment.
