IHCHR contributes to dialogue on women’s advancement

Participants highlighted the need to increase women’s participation in political process and decision-making in Iraq.

The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR), represented by board member Dr. Faten Al-Hilfy, recently participated in a two-day forum on strategies to address barriers to women's advancement in Iraq.

As part of the discussions at the Baghdad Regional Forum, participants highlighted the need to increase women's participation in political process and decision-making.

There was also discussion of regional mechanisms to implement the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and strategies to reduce violence against women.

The Forum included representatives from local and international organisations, with support from the Iraqi government and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI)
