Iraq NHRI joins talks with Arab colleagues

The regional workshop of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions explored the role of NHRIs in relation to the SDGs.

The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights Commission has participated in a regional workshop on Spreading Human Rights Culture under the Sustainable Development Goals, organised by the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions in Morocco on 4-5 February 2020.

The workshop included the heads of NHRIs from across the region, as well as representatives from regional and international organisations.

The IHCHR – represented by the Head of the Commission Dr. Aqeel Al-Moussawi – chaired the session of the workshop that looked at cooperation with the Arab Network to implement the programs of member institutions at the country level.

Discussions stressed the need for the national human rights institutions to monitor implementation of strategic plans for sustainable development, spreading a culture of human rights across the region, initiatives that will be undertaken in 2020 and ways to provide mutual support in protecting and promoting human rights.

Dr. Aqeel Al-Moussawi was joined in the IHCHR`s delegation by Mr. Hemn Al-Bajlan, Mr. Thamir Al-Shammari and Mr. Faisal Abdullah.
