The Government of Qatar has pledged its support to bolster human rights initiatives across the region as part of a funding agreement with the APF.

The Government of Qatar has pledged its support to bolster human rights initiatives in the Asia Pacific region, as part of a three-year funding agreement with the APF.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the APF and the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar, on behalf of the Government of Qatar, in New Delhi on 3 September 2014, with the aim of supporting and strengthening the work of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) in the region.

The financial support provided under the agreement will fund a range of initiatives to encourage the establishment of new NHRIs that meet the international standards set out in the Paris Principles, as well as promote regional cooperation between NHRIs on pressing human rights issues.

The funding will also assist the APF to implement activities set out in its Strategic Plan.

The National Human Rights Committee of Qatar is the current Chairperson of the APF Forum Council, the APF's decision-making body.
