NHRC monitors polling centres ahead of parliamentary elections

The Commission’s role was to oversee whether each polling station was accessible for all people, as well as being COVID-safe.

The National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia has undertaken comprehensive monitoring of polling centres across the country in the lead-up to the parliamentary elections, held on 24 June 2020.

The Commission conducted monitoring of all districts and centres of 19 provinces between 17-23 June, under a specific Terms of Reference.

The Commission's role was to oversee whether each polling station was accessible for all people, including having ramps in place for wheelchair users, ensuring braille ballots and magnifiers are available for visually impaired voters and providing polling booths that ensure voter privacy.

In addition, the Commission monitored whether measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 were being properly followed at each polling station.

The monitoring program was conducted under the leadership of Commissioners.

The preliminary results of the monitoring, along with the recommendations, were submitted to the relevant public bodies to improve accessibility and preparatory works of polling stations and ensure the right of the Mongolian citizens to vote.
