Afghanistan, Mongolia and Nepal have had their “A status” accreditation endorsed by the International Coordinating Committee of NHRIs.
The International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (the ICC) released its most recent Accreditation Report this month.
The report documents the recommendations arising from the ICC Sub-Committee on Accreditation meeting in October 2014, and the final accreditation decisions of the ICC Bureau in December 2014.
Sixteen national human rights institutions (NHRIs) from all four regions were assessed by the Sub-Committee to determine their compliance with the international standards set out in the Paris Principles.
The Sub-Committee made recommendations on the accreditation status of newly-established NHRIs: Finland (A status), Hungary (A status) and Libya (B status).
It also considered the reaccreditation of Albania (A status), Kenya (A status), Malawi (deferred), Mauritius (A status), Paraguay (suspended), Russian Federation (A status), and Ukraine (A status).
In addition, the Sub-Committee reviewed issues in relation to the NHRI from Venezuela.
Three APF member institutions – Afghanistan, Mongolia and Nepal – had their "A status" accreditation re-endorsed by the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC), while the re-accreditation of Korea and Thailand will be considered further at subsequent meetings.
The report of the Sub-Committee's October 2014 session is available on the APF website.
"A status" NHRIs are able to participate independently at the UN Nations Human Rights Council and its subsidiary bodies. Those in the Asia Pacific region are eligible for full membership of the APF, while "B status" institutions are eligible for associate membership of the APF.
The APF was represented on the Sub-Committee by the Independent Commission for Human Rights of Palestine.
The APF secretariat attended the meeting as an observer, along with the regional coordinating bodies of NHRIs from Africa, the Americas and Europe.
