The Iraqi Human Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR) held a workshop in Diyala Governorate to discuss the new domestic violence law, which is expected to be enacted by the Iraqi parliament.

Commission member Dr. Fadhil al-Gharawi convened the workshop, which included the participation of representatives from civil society organizations, the community, police and the Family Protection Police in Diyala Governorate.

Dr Al-Gharawi discussed cases of domestic violence that had been monitored by the IHCHR, praising the role of the relevant departments of the Ministry of Interior in providing protection for women and holding the perpetrators accountable,

He also explained the Commission's role to follow up on these cases and communicate directly with victims in order to provide humanitarian support and document details of the incident for the purpose of communicating with the concerned authorities to provide legal protection.
