The APF has released a gender audit toolkit to support National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) to promote gender equality and mainstream gender into their work.

Facilitating a NHRI Gender Audit: Toolkit for National Human Rights Institutions in the Asia Pacific Region, supports NHRIs to assess, identify and mainstream gender considerations and the human rights of women and girls in all their operations.

The toolkit provides a clear framework for carrying out a NHRI gender audit, including how to plan, design and conduct a gender audit, how to analyse the results, and how to report on the gender audit and recommend actions.

"One of the priorities of the APF is to promote gender equality and support our members to develop their capacity to protect the human rights of women and girls," APF Gender Focal Point, Ms Aishath Fasoha said.

It is important for NHRIs to reflect upon their own internal practices in order to provide leadership and promote gender equality in the wider community

"We hope that the gender audit toolkit will become an essential resource for NHRIs as they continue to mainstream gender within their respective institutions and champion gender equality more broadly."

The toolkit draws on contributions from the members of the APF Gender Network and is designed to complement the APF's NHRI Guidelines for Mainstreaming the Human Rights of Women and Girls into Our Everyday Work.

The toolkit can be used as a downloadable resource; an accompanying online course will be available in late 2021.
